Life in Reception

In Reception we follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) Framework. This is a statutory framework for all children in England and sets out clear goals (Early Learning Goals) which children aim to achieve by the end of Foundation Stage. We plan around children’s interests, following their lead within the themes we have planned. Following a baseline assessment for all children in Reception, we plan effectively for children’s next steps.

During your child’s time in Reception, they will access a wide range of independent and adult led activities. Your child will spend time every day accessing the environment in the classroom and outdoor classroom. They will join in whole class and group learning activities, in addition to adult directed tasks, one-to-one and small group work.

At St. Patricks, we follow the scheme Read Write Inc to teach Phonics daily.  Have a look at the documents and video clips at the bottom of the page for more guidance.

On Your Marks lead our weekly PE on a Tuesday afternoon. Children will need to come to school wearing the school PE kit on this day.

We are a healthy classroom. The children will get a free piece of fruit daily so you do not need to provide any snacks. Children will also get a carton of milk.  Once your child turns 5 years old, you can pay should you wish to continue receiving a milk.  We also encourage the children to drink water throughout the day. Please send your child with a named water bottle each day.

We capture some of the children's learning using our online learning journal.  https://tapestryjournal.com/ Please log on and add photos or videos of your children at home. We love to see these!

Should you have any queries, please feel free to come and speak to us at the end of the day.

Virtues and Values

Virtues & Values

Our focus for this term is 'Grateful and Generous'.

RE

At St Patrick’s we teach RE using ‘Learning and Growing as the People of God’.  This document is the curriculum strategy for Religious Education in Catholic Primary Schools in the Archdiocese of Birmingham. It lays out clearly the steps to be taken in RE at each stage of every term in the Nursery and Primary Years. It provides, therefore, the foundations for improved partnership between school, home and parish, a partnership that lies at the heart of Catholic Education.

This half term, we will be learning about 'Chiristmas and Baptism.'

During Reception we focus on these prayers.  Please support your child to pray these at home.
